 Comment follows: China is a signatory to the United Nations Law of the Sea Convention [UNCLOS]; however, China’s actions in the East China Sea [in the Senkaku Islands] and South China Sea [in cases involving the Philippines and Vietnam] run counter to the UNCLOS but China fails to realize its obligation. It refuses to act peacefully and multilaterally. Instead it acts against nations like the Philippines and Vietnam one by one using a “bullying” type of force. Since President Obama made clear that the US will “absolutely” back Japan in the Senkakus Islands, China may back down there “for a while” but it will never give up.
